Fun, Creative, and Viral: Extreme Sheep LED Art

SideWiki ConversationSamsung recently funded an impressive viral video project involving sheep, border collies, shepherds, and a much less likely addition—LEDs. The sheep were herded into creative shapes by the shepherds and their dogs. While cameras filmed the hills from a distance, sheep ran across them. The shepherds formed their flocks into all kinds of interesting shapes, but the real fun started at nightfall. The sheep were all fixed with a coat of LEDs, and led back out onto the hills. The Shepherds then provided viewers with a slew of entertaining displays ranging from a massive game of “Pong,” to fireworks, and a photo mash-up in the shape of the Mona Lisa.

The creative minds behind this viral campaign should be proud of such an impressive achievement. It wasn’t hard at all to watch the film more than once. The video didn’t seem at all like an advertisement for Samsung until a short company message at the end. Samsung deserves some credit here too, for thinking outside the box and attempting to entertain their target audience, rather than simply advertising to them.

Videos like these are a sign that big companies are beginning to see the value in creative social media marketing. Advertisements don’t need to be boring or obtrusive to be effective. The contemporary trend of creative viral marketing seems to amply prove that point. As viral marketing campaigns become more creative, their popularity grows, and their audience grows with it. Keep an eye out in the near future, there are surely more brilliant virals like this to come.
