Crowdsourcing Brilliance, the Hoppy Smell of Social Media

If you haven’t heard of the notion of Crowdsourcing, basically it involves using a massive community to develop ideas and projects for any entity, (something along the lines of open-source technology). There is usually a large base population submitting their ideas to an online pool. Users are then allowed to vote on the best ideas and the winner sometimes gets monetary income, but usually is left with petty bragging rights.
While I was tweeting about how badly I would like a Pabst Blue Ribbon with lime, I received a reply from Buy a Beer Company asking me to pitch in to buy Pabst Blue Ribbon. After researching the idea, I fell across what might be the best example of crowdsourcing I have ever seen (yes I am dramatic but I am excited). For every donation that a consumer makes to Buyabeercomany.com they receive an equal amount in beer and their equal share of the Pabst company (that is, if the company succeeds in raising the $350 million to buy it). So far, based on the count of their website ticker they have raised over 200 million.
The project was started by two advertising agencies, and seems to be making serious headway. I went ahead and made a pledge for 5 dollars, (the price of 1 six pack of 16oz PBR cans), in hopes of being part of history, and a very small owner of my favorite cheap beer company.
